Intro:

 TTAP Assistive Technology Specialist – East Tennessee Region 

Are you passionate about all that we can achieve by leveraging Assistive Technology solutions for people with special needs? 

This person will: coordinate assistive technology services for the Tennessee Technology Access Program within Signal Centers for individuals needing technology in the fields of low vision or blind services, communication disabilities, sensory impairments, learning disabilities, physical impairments, or developmental disabilities.

Covering the following counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, and Washington. Please note travel within these areas is required.


Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or a related field.
  • Prior experience in the Assistive/Adaptive Technology field and 1 year experience working with people having disabilities, or experience utilizing Assistive and enabling Technologies is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to interact with staff, participants, and community partners professionally and respectfully.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to easily explain technology and train individuals on unfamiliar technology and confidence in public speaking.
  • Must be able to prioritize duties, exhibit proficient ability to organize workload and manage details.
  • Must have or be willing to complete an ATP certification through RESNA.

  JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. A personal vehicle and state required auto insurance is required for regular travel throughout the service area.
  2. Completion of a background check, including state and federal registries, recognizing this person works with vulnerable populations.
  3. Completion of a health form & TB skin test.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for delivering Tennessee Technology Access Project (TTAP) services according to the scope of services outlined in the TTAP grant within the assigned region.
  • Assist the Director of the AT Center by helping represent the AT Center with community partners and at networking meetings and events throughout the assigned region.
  • Complete the required reports for the Tennessee Technology Access Project grant (TTAP) in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate Assistive Technology Demonstrations and Assessments for TTAP. Demonstrating enabling technology to no fewer than 150 participants annually as a team. Demonstrations might include schools, work sites, a participant home, as well as other similar venues.
  • Coordinate the AT Reutilization and Loan Program within the designated service area. This region should be providing no fewer than 200 devices to clients within the service area annually for reutilization and no fewer than 100 short-term loans annually.
  • The AT team shall provide training to at least 120 participants in a year, through a minimum of 12 training sessions both on Information and Communication technologies as well as general adaptive computer skills, software, hardware, and other enabling technologies.
  • Conduct frequent public awareness workshops/activities disseminating information on Assistive Technology. The center shall conduct at least 14/year.
  • Provide information and guidance to the general community on assistive and enabling technology including devices, services, and potential funding sources. This may be done by phone, virtually or in person, keeping a documented record of each contact.
  • Target participants in transition, ensuring we are serving those transition to/from school and those that are transition to/from congregate and community living.
  • Research new technology for AT Center clients.
  • Write complete AT Evaluations for clients.
  • Complete Intake information on clients.
  • Complete Release of Information forms as well as Photo Releases.
  • Bill clients for services in the AT Center when this is appropriate.
  • Learn software and hardware available through the AT Center.  Keep up to date with new enabling technology.
  • Maintain records of every contact: visits, meetings, phone, fax, e-mail for all clients.  Keep a record of this in the participants’ file.
  • Keep “Monthly Activity Log” up to date with all contacts through visit, meeting, phone, fax, e-mail for all clients each month.
  • Be responsible for learning new software and hardware.
  • Conduct and supervise AT consumer satisfaction surveys.
  • Keep Director of AT Center informed.
